BIKESTATION PALO ALTO RE-OPENS IN HISOTORIC DEPOT WITH

HIGH-TECH BICYCLE PARKING SOLUTION

Palo Alto, Ca. Continuing a tradition of revolutionary concepts in clean transportation choices, Bikestation opens in the newly converted, state-of-the-art facility on February 27 offering 24-hour access to secure parking.

GRAND OPENING, 12:30 pm, Tuesday, February 27. Join Bikestation representatives, City of Palo Alto staff and partners from Stanford University, Caltrain/SamTrans, Valley Transportation Authority and Caltrans at 12:30 pm on Thursday, February 27 for a Grand Opening celebration.

An advanced entry system allows members of the facility exclusive 24/7 access with a proximity device to secure indoor parking and shared-use bicycle kiosk. Operated by Palo Alto Bicycles in partnership with Bikestation.

Strategically located in the historic Palo Alto Depot baggage building, Bikestation provides cyclists a haven for parking and safeguarding their vehicles with convenient connections to and from the Caltrain Commuter rail and both Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and SamTrans bus systems as well as downtown Palo Alto and Stanford University.

Bikestation Palo Alto closed in November 2004 in order for renovations to the historic depot to be completed. The City of Palo Alto secured funding from the Bicycle Transportation Account to improve the facility and equip the baggage building with 24/7 access capabilities. Joseph Bellomo Architects designed and built the new interior. Security cameras monitor the area and access is limited to Bikestation members.

Inside the Bikestation, there are 96 bicycle racks that feature a light, easy-to-use double-tier system enabling cyclists of any height or strength to use them. Each rack can accommodate a bike lock for added security.

The Bicycle Transportation Account grant also included the installation of twelve E-Lockers, located in the High Street and Bryant Street Parking Garages. These pay per-use bicycle lockers can be accessed with a smart card that is available from the City of Palo Alto or from Palo Alto Bicycles. The E-Lockers allow cyclists to park their bicycles in a secure locker in the downtown Palo Alto business district.

There are daily, monthly, and annual memberships available. The memberships are sold online at www.bikestation.com. The cost ranges from $1.00 per day for the daily membership to $96.00 for the annual membership. Every option requires an annual $20 administrative fee.

Bikestation Palo Alto is located in the Palo Alto Depot in the north baggage building. For further information, log onto www.bikestation.com.
